Kalimat Past continuous tense juga dikenal dengan kalimat past progressive adalah kalimat yang mereferensikan kegiatan atau keadaan berlanjut yang sudah terjadi di beberapa kondisi di waktu lampau. Tenses past continuous tense dibentuk dengan mengkombinasikan kalimat past tense pada to be was/were dengan kata kerja participle (menggunakan verb –ing)
Kapan menggunakan Kalimat Past Continuous?
Kalimat Past Continuous dapat digunakan untuk menyatakan kondisi sebagai berikut :
1. Menyatakan kejadian yang berlangsung di waktu lampau, Contoh : I was visiting Tamara last week.
2. Untuk menyatakan kegiatan yang terjadi sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan yang lain. Contoh: Yesterday, my mother was cooking a rice when I ate donut
3. Untuk menyatakan sesuatu kegiatan yang terjadi sebelum dan sesudah waktu khusus, seperti It was eight o’clock, I was watching youtube.
4. Untuk menunjukkan sesuatu yang berlanjut pada beberapa waktu, Contoh : everyone was listening music.
5. Untuk sesuatu yang telah terjadi lagi dan lagi. contoh : I was reading English book every day, four times a day
6. Untuk menyatakan kata kerja yang menunjukkan perubahan atau pertumbuhan, seperti Her plant was growing up quickly in your land.
