Translation from Sahih International : And similarly, We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a speaker from among them, “How long have you remained [here]?” They said, “We have remained a day or part of a day.” They said, “Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you. (Al Kahf verse 19)
Tafseer Al Qur’an Surah Al Kahf Verse 19 According to the book Tafsir Jalalain:
وَكَذٰلِكَ (And similarly) that We have done to Ashabul Kahf as we have mentioned earlier- بَعَثۡنٰهُمۡ (We awakened them) we awaken them so that they- لِيَتَسَآءَلُوۡا بَيۡنَهُمۡ (that they might question one another) about their situation and length of stay they were in the cave- ؕ قَالُوۡا لَبِثۡنَا يَوۡمًا اَوۡ بَعۡضَ يَوۡمٍؕ (How long have you remained [here]?” They said, “We have remained a day or part of a day.” ) because they entered the cave when the sun was starting to rise and they woke up when the sun was setting, therefore they thought that that was the time when the sun was setting, Then- قَالُوۡا (They said) While handing over this knowledge Allah رَبُّكُمۡ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثۡتُمۡ ؕ فَابۡعَثُوۡۤا اَحَدَكُمۡ بِوَرِقِكُمۡ هٰذِهٖۤ (“Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours) lafadz wariqikum can also be read warqikum meaning your silver money- اِلَى الۡمَدِيۡنةِ (to the city) according to one opinion, this is what is now called Tarasus- فَلۡيَنۡظُرۡ اَيُّهَاۤ اَزۡكٰى طَعَامًا (let him look to which is the best of food) meaning which food in the city is the most halal- فَلۡيَاۡتِكُمۡ بِرِزۡقٍ مِّنۡهُ وَلۡيَتَلَطَّفۡ وَلَا يُشۡعِرَنَّ بِكُمۡ اَحَدًا (and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you)
