ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنٰهُمۡ لِنَعۡلَمَ اَىُّ الۡحِزۡبَيۡنِ اَحۡصٰى لِمَا لَبِثُوۡۤا اَمَدًا (12)
Latin Inscription : tsumma ba’atsnaahum lina’lama ayyul khizbaini akhsoo lima labitsu amadan
Translation from sahih International : Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time. (Surah Al Kahf verse 12)
Tafseer Al Qur’an Surah Al Kahf Verse 12 According to the book Tafsir Jalalain
ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنٰهُمۡ (Then We awakened them) we make them wake up- لِنَعۡلَمَ (that We might show) witness in reality- اَىُّ الۡحِزۡبَيۡنِ(which of the two factions) between the two groups who disputed te about the length of time they lived in the cave- اَحۡصٰى (was most precise) is more suitable, this lafadz akhsoo gives wazan af’ala- لِمَا لَبِثُوۡۤا (precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained) regarding their stay. Lafadz Limaa Talbisuu says ta’alluq to the next lafadz – اَمَدًا (in time) the time limit.
