What is the function of cell membranes in animals?
The cell membrane in animals is the outermost layer that separates the cell from the surrounding environment.
The cell membrane in plant cells is found between the cell wall and the cell contents.
The main function of cell membranes is to regulate the traffic of substances in and out of and into cells in a selectively permeable manner. Selectively permeable means that only certain molecules can pass through, the cell membrane also functions as a reaction site, receptor, and cell protector.
