What is meant by distributive property?
The definition of distributive property is a calculation operation by combining the number resulting from the operation with the existing combination element.
An example of calculating the distributive operation is as follows:
- Calculation of the Multiplication operation on addition Formula a x (b+c) = (a x b) + (a x c)
- Calculation of the Multiplication operation against subtraction formula a x (b-c) = (a x b) – (a x c)
From the calculation formula above, we can perform multiplication calculations with addition and subtraction or distributive property as follows
1) 4 x 23 = 4 x (18 + 5)
= (4 x 18) + (4 x 5)
= 72 + 20
= 92
2) 6 x 13 = 6 x (7 + 6)
= (6 x 7) + (6 x 6)
= 42 + 36
= 78
3) 5 x 11 = 5 x (4 + 7)
= (5 x 4) + (5 x 7)
= 20 + 35
= 55
4) 7 x 25 = 7 x (30 – 5)
= (7 x 30) – (7 x 5)
= 210 – 35
= 175
5) 9 x 18 = 9 x (20 – 2)
= (9 x 20) – (9 x 2)
= 180 – 18
= 162
