Kalimat Past Perfect Continuous Tense berfungsi untuk menyatakan perbuatan yang sedang berlangsung di waktu lampau dengan penekanan pada durasi waktunya, kalimat past continuous tense juga berfungsi untuk menyatakan peristiwa yang telah berlangsung di dalam durasi waktu tertentu sebelum peristiwa lain terjadi di waktu lampau. Contoh kalimat past perfect continuous tense seperti kalimat Finally He came last time, Yudi had been waiting for him for 3 months. (Pada akhirnya dia datang kemarin, Yudi sudah menunggunya selama 3 bulan.) He came last time adalah bentuk simple past tense, sedang Yudi had been waiting for him adalah bentuk kalimat past perfect continuous tense.
